Every year, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Awareness Day highlights the importance of early diagnosis, proper information and—most importantly—holistic support for people living with this condition. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is one of the most common inherited heart diseases, affecting people of all ages and often bringing uncertainty, fear and questions about the future.

Medical monitoring is essential. However, the experience of receiving a diagnosis and managing a chronic condition goes far beyond clinical care. This is exactly where Cordia Health aims to make a difference.

From personal experience to innovation

Cordia Health was founded in 2024, but the idea behind it started much earlier—through a deeply personal journey.

Its founder, Theodoros, was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at the age of 16 and had to undergo surgery to implant a defibrillator. What had once been a dream of pursuing professional sports suddenly turned into a path filled with uncertainty and limitations. Despite the challenges, he managed to continue competing at a high level for 11 years.

What he struggled to find, however, was someone who truly understood what he was going through—someone who had experienced the same journey. The lack of connection, reliable information and emotional support became the starting point for what would later become Cordia.

The name Cordia reflects the words compassion and heart. For the team, the heart is not only the organ that inspired the idea—it represents empathy, connection and human care.

A digital space for understanding and support

Cordia’s vision is simple and clear: every patient should have access to the support they need.

The team is developing a digital application designed to become a trusted space for people living with heart conditions—and, in the future, potentially for anyone managing a chronic disease. It aims to combine reliable medical information with lived patient experience, using technology as a bridge for connection and support.

This need became even more evident in 2025, when Theodoros experienced serious health complications and had to undergo several additional medical procedures. This difficult period reinforced the team’s mission: to build a solution that supports people during the first—and often most challenging—steps after diagnosis.

As the team started sharing their story publicly, they realised something even more powerful. Whether someone is dealing with heart disease, diabetes or cancer, people share a common need: the need for understanding, guidance and hope.

Changing how we think about chronic diseases

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Awareness Day is not only about raising awareness. It is a reminder that behind every diagnosis there is a human story.

Cordia Health is working toward a future where no one feels afraid to share their experience. A future where technology becomes a tool for empowerment rather than distance.

As its founder learned through his own journey:

“Every time we share our story, we do not only help others—we also help ourselves.”

At Health Hub, we support initiatives that place people at the centre of digital health and help ensure that innovation translates into meaningful support for patients.
