Health Hub: Launch of the European Digital Innovation Hub for Health in Greece

Health Hub, the European Digital Innovation Hub for the transformation of the health and pharmaceutical sector through digital artificial intelligence services, has officially started its operations. It represents a reference point for digital health and pharmaceuticals at both national and European level.

The EU-funded Digital Innovation Hub is headquartered in Thessaly, specifically in Larissa, at the JOIST Innovation Park, with branches in five (5) additional Greek cities (Athens, Patras, Heraklion, Corfu, and Rhodes). Greek universities, organisations, and other key public and private stakeholders from the health and pharmaceutical sector participate, supporting them in their digital transformation journey.

The purpose of Health Hub is to develop a unified digital medical data base and a platform for drug design and use, through the inclusion of health stakeholders with distinct roles, aiming at the rapid development and delivery to the wider public of new, targeted-action medicines with low production costs.

The objectives of Health Hub include:

  • The development and strengthening of digital capabilities in the health and pharmaceutical sector in Greece through artificial intelligence, an initiative of vital importance for enhancing the competitiveness and innovative capacity of businesses and organisations in the sector.
  • The provision of integrated services based on modern technologies to local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), mid-cap companies, and public-sector organisations in the health and pharmaceutical field, supporting and strengthening them in areas related to artificial intelligence, data management, and algorithmic analysis.
  • The development of a human-centred training and education framework for the acquisition of advanced digital skills that will support innovation and leadership in healthcare.
  • The implementation of a comprehensive and productive digital transformation process that responds dynamically to the challenges of health sector development in Greece, integrating digital technologies.
  • Support for the business community and public bodies by providing access to innovative services as well as connections with other European Digital Innovation Hubs in Greece and across Europe.

The benefits arising from the coordinated action of Health Hub extend beyond end users to the general population of the country. Its innovations will contribute significantly to meeting the pressing need for targeted and upgraded healthcare through cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence. These interventions will ensure access to new and timely therapies. As such, the operation of Health Hub constitutes a major opportunity for the further development and long-term sustainability of the health sector, setting a new horizon.

The provision of high-quality yet affordable healthcare services remains a timeless necessity. All partners of the European Digital Innovation Hub Health Hub look forward to the successful implementation of its objectives for the benefit of society as a whole.
